Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that the campaign of ‘Mukt’ covid-19 vaccines Successfully progressing for all.
Launching the Prime Minister’s Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission in Varanasi, Modi said, “The country has achieved a milestone of 100 crore vaccine doses in its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.”
India crossed the one billion vaccination mark last week. Subsequently, the Prime Minister claimed that India had not only provided one billion vaccine doses to its citizens, but also did that for free. The comment attracted attention as more than 30% of the total vaccination is done by the private sector for cost. In addition, the central government is also urging citizens capable of paying for Covid-19 vaccines to go for paid vaccinations at private centers so that free vaccines are available to the poor.
According to the Union Health Ministry, more than 107.22 crore vaccine doses have been provided to the States/UTs through the Center (free channel) and Direct State Procurement category so far.
More than 12.75 crore (12,75,29,984) remaining and untapped Covid-19 vaccine doses are still available with the States/UTs.
Meanwhile, amidst the fall in temperature and the festive season, India recorded at least 14,306 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. The active caseload remained below the 2 lakh mark and currently stands at 1,67,695, the lowest in 239 days. Active cases currently account for 0.49% of the country’s total positive cases, which is the lowest since March 2020, government data shows.
India has so far conducted over 60.07 crore cumulative tests. The weekly positivity rate is less than 2% for the last 31 days at 1.24%. The daily positivity rate was 1.43%, down from 2% for the last 21 days and less than 3% for 56 consecutive days, the health ministry said.
The government said that India’s recovery rate stood at 98.18%, which is currently at its peak since March 2020. The cumulative number of cured patients (since the start of the pandemic) rose to 3,35,67,367 from 18,762 patients recovered in the last 24 hours, government data showed.
