Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a one-on-one meeting with Pope Francis in Vatican City on Saturday ahead of the delegation-level talks, during which he is expected to discuss several areas of interest in the context of a general global outlook and issues. such as COVID-19.
Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan said, “The Prime Minister will have a separate meeting. He will be meeting His Holiness on a one-on-one basis. And after a certain period, there can be delegation-level talks.” Shringla told reporters on Friday while divulging details of Prime Minister’s engagements in Italy.
Mr Shringla said the Vatican had not set an agenda for the talks. “I believe that tradition is not on the agenda when you discuss issues with His Holiness. And I think we respect that. In his departure statement on Thursday, PM Modi said that he will visit Rome and Vatican City from October 29-31.
“During my visit to Italy, I will also visit Vatican City to meet His Holiness Pope Francis and to meet the Foreign Minister, His Excellency Cardinal Pietro Parolin,” PM Modi said.
PM Modi will travel from Rome to Glasgow in Britain at the invitation of British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
