To further boost the partnership between the Central and State Governments, PM Narendra Modi will chair the second National Conference of Chief Secretaries in Delhi on January 6-7.
Earlier, the first conference of Chief Secretaries was held in Dharamshala in June 2022.
This year the National Conference of Chief Secretaries will be held in New Delhi from January 5-7. The three-day conference will focus on achieving rapid and sustained economic growth in partnership with the states.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said that it will also see the participation of over 200 people from Central Government representatives, Chief Secretaries and other senior officials of all States/UTs and domain experts.
The conference will lay the groundwork for collaborative action to achieve a developed India with emphasis on growth and employment generation and inclusive human development.
The agenda of the conference has been decided after extensive deliberations in over 150 physical and virtual consultative meetings between nodal ministries, NITI Aayog, States/UTs and domain experts over the past three months.
Six identified themes will be discussed during the conference: Thrust on MSMEs; infrastructure and investment; minimal compliance; women empowerment; health and Nutrition; and skill development.
Developed India: Reaching the Last Mile; Five Years of Goods and Services Tax (GST) – Learnings and Experiences; and Global Geopolitical Challenges and India’s Response.
In addition, there will be focused discussions on four themes. Vocal for Local; International Year of Millet; G20: Role of States; and emerging technologies.
The best practices of the States/UTs under each theme will also be presented in the conference so that the States can learn from each other.
As directed by the Prime Minister, three virtual conferences were also held with the States and Union Territories before the main conference on the subjects of districts as the backbone of development; circular economy; and Model UT. The outcomes of these virtual conferences will be presented at the National Conference of Chief Secretaries.
