PM’s popularity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s approval rating, tracked by Morning Consult, again tops the list of 13 national leaders. Modi’s approval rating, at 72%, is well ahead of others in power, according to the latest update from Global Consultancy. Second-ranked Mexican President López Obrador has a 64% rating, while Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi is third with 57%. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is fourth with 47%, while US President Joe Biden, with 41%, is sixth with three others. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who has reportedly been embroiled in a scandal over lockdown violations, is at the bottom with a 30% rating.

Modi has led the list for three years: through the thick and thin of Covid, a pandemic that has taken a toll on the appeals of politicians in many other countries. Their continued popularity is also reflected in household trackers, such as the “Mood of the Nation” survey conducted by a weekly publication. Opponents may have hit a dead-end when looking for correlations with Indian economic or pandemic numbers. It is extraordinary, no doubt, yet, Modi shows no signs of taking his political success lightly
