Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said on Wednesday that police may soon arrest Congress leader Digvijay Singh in a case related to allegedly posting fake and communally sensitive material online.
“MP Police may arrest Digvijay Singh for posting fake and communally sensitive tweets,” Mishra said.
Mishra’s remarks came a day after a controversial social media post by the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister.
In Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, politics has heated up in the state with the registration of an FIR against the senior Congress leader amid tension after clashes during Ram Navami procession.
Singh had posted a picture which showed a group of people hoisting the saffron flag at a mosque. However, the post turned out to be fake and later, Singh’s post was removed from his Twitter account.
Mishra also questioned the intention of the Congress leader to file a complaint against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in a matter related to 2019. “The Congress was in power in the state at that time. Why was no action taken then? Then why was he making fun of Rahul Gandhi?” The Home Minister asked.
Singh had written to Bhopal Police Commissioner and Shyamala Hills police station to file a complaint against Chouhan for an old post on social media.
However, the senior Congress leader said on Twitter today, “As soon as I came to know that the picture is from Muzaffarpur in Bihar from 2017, I immediately deleted my tweet. But my questions about the Khargone riots remain.”
Is it a crime to ask questions in this country now? As leaders of the opposition, can’t we question such an atmosphere being created against a section of the people of our country/state?” He asked further.
He also questioned the use of bulldozers “without notice and without investigation”. “Will democracy now run on unilateral political considerations?” Congress leader asked.
Meanwhile, action is going on against the rioters in Khargone by the police and district administration and so far about 100 people have been arrested. More than 50 buildings were also demolished till Tuesday evening.
