In a daring act, Nagaraju, a police constable attached to the Bandar taluk police station, saved the lives of three engineering students who were swept away by the tide at Manginpudi beach on November 23.
Krishna district Superintendent of Police P. Joshua and Machilipatnam Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Masoom Basha and other officials lauded the constables and villagers for saving the lives of the students.
According to the local people, the three youths studying engineering in a private college in Vijayawada had come to the beach for a walk. They entered the sea to bathe and went some distance in the water.
Suddenly, the high tide swept away the three students who shouted for help. Mr. Nagaraju, who was on patrolling duty, along with fishermen and villagers, jumped into the water with a rope tied around his hip, rescued the students and brought them to the shore.
“Later, the local people administered first aid to all the three students and their condition was stable. The students were natives of Bhimavaram,” Mr. Nagaraju said.
“Mr. Joshua appealed to the people not to venture into the depth of the sea and take bath in deserted places. The constable will be rewarded,” said the DSP.
