Police organized community feast on Ganeshotsav to bond with citizens. Nagpur News – Times of India

Nagpur: Following in the footsteps of freedom fighter Bal Gangadhar Tilak, who started the (public) Ganeshotsav to unite communities, the city police reached out to citizens to nurture its ‘communal harmony’ theme during the festival.
On Thursday, local residents, various members of the committee, public representatives, police friends or civic volunteers and other personalities were invited by organizing Mahaprasad at Sakardara, Lakarganj, Pachpauli, Ganeshpeth, Kapil Nagar and Imambara police stations.
Sources said that Mayor Dayashankar Tiwari visited the Ganeshpeth police station to meet the active members of the police and police committees.
Through the Mahaprasad initiative, the city police also focused on building informer bases and support groups among citizens, who act as interfaces between police and society during a crisis.
The police ensured that the COVID norms were followed and an informal interaction was conducted among a limited number of invitees comprising people from different communities, beliefs and socio-economic backgrounds.
City police chief Amitesh Kumar, who had asked police stations to follow the COVID norms while organizing the Mahaprasad, said the occasion served the purpose of creating an atmosphere of communal harmony. “I tried to get an unbiased response from the invitees about policing and address their grievances. Such interactions develop mutual understanding between the police and the public,” said the CP, who attended events at Ganeshpeth, Pachpauli and Imambara police stations.
Kapil Nagar police station senior inspector Amol Deshmukh was optimistic about the result after people from different communities and backgrounds participated in the Mahaprasad.
Senior Inspector Sanjay Mendhe said the COVID norms were strictly enforced with a “humble reminder” to the invitees. He said, “Selected and active members of Mohalla (neighborhood), Shanta (peace) and Kushti (vigilance) committees, who were meeting with different police, came on a common platform to interact freely with us. ”
