“Political terrorism”: Trinamool leader slams BJP over attack on party MP

Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev alleged that BJP was behind the attack in Tripura

Kolkata:

Trinamool Congress MP Sushmita Dev’s car was vandalized by some people in Tripura today. Some employees of a private firm that helped Ms. Dev’s party with political campaigns were injured in the attack. Dev, who has been monitoring the activities of the Trinamool Congress in Tripura, alleged that the BJP was behind the attack.

When the attack happened, Ms. Deo was with employees of the Indian Political Action Committee, or I-PAC, a political public relations and consulting firm. Political strategists Prashant Kishor and the I-PAC worked with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s party for the West Bengal assembly election earlier this year.

Visuals showed a blue SUV with the Trinamool Congress’s election symbol and roof-mounted loudspeakers with multiple hits.

“Sushmita Dev along with 10 other party workers of TMC were brutally attacked by Bharatiya Janata Party workers at Amtli Bazar at around 1:30 pm. The criminals vandalized vehicles, physically assaulted TMC workers and Mahila Party Outraged the modesty of the workers,” the Trinamool Congress said in its complaint to the police.

“It also involved theft of property including mobile phones of party supporters. We request you to investigate the matter immediately and bring the culprits to justice,” the Trinamool Congress said.

Trinamool Congress general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee said that the BJP under the Biplab Deb government of Tripura is setting new records in attacking opponents.

The Diamond Harbor MP accused the BJP of resorting to “political terrorism” and said “the people of Tripura will respond”. He also said that the Biplab Deb government is providing “duare gundaraj (gunda raj at the door)” – a backhand swipe that is contrary to the Trinamool’s promise of duare sarkar (government at the door).

“Under @BjpBiplab’s #DuareGundaRaj, attack on political opponents is setting new records! Physically harassing a sitting woman Rajya Sabha MP @SushmitaDevAITC by @BJP4Tripura goons is shameful and beyond political terrorism! Time is near. People of Tripura will respond!,” Mr Banerjee tweeted.

Ms Dev, who quit the Congress in August to join the Trinamool, is traveling across Tripura to garner support as the Mamata Banerjee-led party emerges as a strong force in the northeastern state ahead of the 2023 assembly polls. Working hard to emerge.

“Our national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has announced that TMC will contest all upcoming elections in Tripura and that is how we are preparing to contest the civic polls. Let the elections be declared, the party will work out the final strategy,” he said. He spoke to reporters in the state capital Agartala on Thursday.

He said, “The campaign will last for 10-12 days, covering all 60 assembly constituencies in 58 blocks of eight districts. We will go to the people, talk to them and listen to their problems. Three teams have been formed for the campaign. Has gone.” said.
