Five members of the same family were murdered with sharp weapons in Khevrajpur village of the district. Rajkumar (55), his wife Kusum (50), daughter Manisha (25), daughter-in-law Savita (30) and granddaughter Mitakshi (2) were found dead at their house under Tharvai police station area in the early hours of Saturday. Rival political parties reacted strongly to the killings. While the Samajwadi Party (SP) attacked the Yogi Adityanath government, alleging that Uttar Pradesh is “shrouded in crime”, Bajuhan Samaj Party chief Mayawati demanded a thorough probe. In a Hindi tweet from the Chief Minister’s Office, Adityanath expressed grief. He directed the officials to provide adequate treatment to the injured family members and directed the District Magistrate and senior police officers to conduct a fair investigation.
The five people died on Friday night when Rajkumar’s son Sunil had gone out to attend a wedding. His five-year-old daughter Sakshi, who was present in the house at the time of the murder, narrowly escaped. SSP Kumar said the post-mortem report confirmed that the victims died of head injuries.
“No evidence of rape has been found in the report. However, vaginal slides and swabs of the deceased women have been collected and sent to the forensic science laboratory to ascertain the truth,” Prayagraj police said in a statement. However, the police did not give any specific reason for the murder.
The SSP said that there was a fire in the bedroom as well, which the fire brigade extinguished. Kumar said a case has been registered at Tharvai police station and seven teams have been formed to probe the matter. Prayagraj Zone Additional Director General of Police Prem Prakash told PTI-language, the special task force will also help in the investigation.
Taking cognizance of media reports about the killings, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav tweeted along with a news report, “Under BJP 2.0, UP is engulfed in crime. Today’s testimony.” Mayawati said, “The news of the brutal murder of five members of the same family in Prayagraj is extremely sad, condemnable and worrying. The government should go to the bottom of the incident and ensure strict legal action against the culprits.” Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party-Lohia chief Shivpal Yadav visited the SRN Hospital here, met the relatives of the deceased and offered condolences.He sought protection and financial assistance to the survivors and asked the government to fund the education of the witness. He said that the culprits should be arrested at the earliest and punished severely.
