AIADMK MLA and former Deputy Speaker Pollachi V. Jayaraman and his son Pravin Jayaraman have jointly filed a civil suit in the Madras High Court, seeking damages of ₹1 crore from eight YouTube channels and three of their guest speakers for having allegedly linked the plaintiffs with the Pollachi serial sexual assault case.
Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy on Thursday (May 29, 2025) adjourned the hearing on the suit by a week at the request of a junior counsel representing the plaintiffs. The judge took note of the submission of advocate P.T. Perumal that he would be representing Nakheeran Gopal, who had been arrayed as the first defendant in the suit.
Apart from damages, the plaintiffs had also sought a permanent injunction restraining the YouTube channels from publishing any imputations connecting them with the sexual assault case, besides seeking a direction to the defendants to pay the cost incurred by the plaintiffs for filing the present suit for damages.
The plaintiffs had also filed an application seeking an interim injunction restraining the defendants from making any statements, either directly or through inuendos, connecting the father and the son with the sexual assault case. Their other application sought a direction to take down the videos that had already been published.
The YouTube videos, which the plaintiffs wanted to be pulled down, included the ones published by Nakheeran TV, AranSei, Jeeva Today, and Jambavan TV on May 13, 2025; the videos published by Galatta Voice and The Debate on May 14, 2025; and those published by Tamil Nadu Now and IBC Tamil on May 15, 2205.
A Mahila Court in Coimbatore had sentenced nine individuals to life imprisonment on May 13, 2025 after finding them guilty in the sexual assault case.
