Mani Ratnam’s much-awaited magnum opus teaser, Ponniyin Selvan: Part One Unveiled today. Actors Suriya, Mahesh Babu, Mohanlal, Rakshit Shetty and Amitabh Bachchan released the teaser in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi respectively.
The one-minute teaser video promises a grand retelling of the events that led the Chola dynasty to a mighty empire in the southern subcontinent in the 10th century. The video also shows glimpses of Aditya Karikalan as Vikram, Karthi as Vanthiyathevan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as Rani Nandini, Trisha as Kundavai and Jayam Ravi as Arulmozhi Varman.
The magnum opus also stars Ashwin Kakumanu, Aishwarya Lakshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, Sarath Kumar, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, Jayaram, Prakash Raj, Parthiban, Lal, Jayachitra, Riyaz Khan in pivotal roles.
The technical crew consists of AR Rahman for music, Sreekar Prasad for editing, Ravi Varman for cinematography, Thottaa Tharani for production design, Jayamohan for dialogues, Eka Lakhani for costumes, Vikram Gaikwad for make-up, choreography There are many A-listers like Master Brinda. And so on.
Based on Kalki Krishnamurthy’s popular novel on the life of Raja Raja Chozhan, Ponniyin Selvan: Part One There is a screenplay written by Mani Ratnam, Jayamohan and Kumarvel. The film will be the first of a two-part film series.
The story is set during a tumultuous time in the Chola Empire in the 10th century, when power struggles between different branches of the ruling family led to a violent rift between the ruling emperor over potential successors. The film is touted as an adventure epic where brave soldiers, cunning spies and evil planners all try to conquer the empire for themselves, and a civil war is imminent until the score is settled.
All this political and military upheaval leads the Cholas to become the most prosperous and powerful empire on the continent and the most successful and longest reign in history. The PS-1 marks the beginning of the Golden Age.
