President sought help to retrieve UOH land

The All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) has written to the President of India and the university’s visitor, Ram Nath Kovind, requesting his intervention in the land dispute related to the University of Hyderabad (UoH).

The letter said that 2,324.05 acres of land in Kancha Gachibowli village of Serilingampalli mandal of Rangareddy district had been promised to be transferred by the then Andhra Pradesh government to Hyderabad in 1975 to set up a university campus.

The university was formed in 1973 as part of the six-point formula and under Article 371E of the Constitution.

However, the Telangana government is now claiming that the UOH is not entitled to the land as per the writ filed by the university in the Telangana High Court. The Government also mentioned that no conclusion had been drawn till date in respect of the said land. The students said in the letter that it was also painful to note that the university land was being allotted for private purposes.

Request for Expert Panel

The student group requested the President to constitute an inquiry committee with experts to explore various options for the transfer of 2324.05 acres of land to the University as per the assurance given under the six-point formula in 1975. “Otherwise, there is a high probability of encroachment of university land by private players.”

The students reminded that UOH was renamed Institution of Eminence (IOE) and was expanding rapidly and providing youth with new interdisciplinary courses as well as cutting-edge research opportunities.
