Former President Ram Nath Kovind on July 29 said that even after demitting the office of the President, it is his national duty to follow all constitutional principles, considering all sections and religions of the society equal.

“A President cannot favor any specific class and the post of ‘President’ is the patron of all sections of the society. Even former Presidents must fulfill all these responsibilities and they need to work on constitutional principles. Which is their national duty,” said Mr. Kovind.

Mr Kovind stepped down on Monday after completing his five-year term and the former Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu takes oath as President earlier that day.

Praising BR Ambedkar, the former president said, “Apart from giving a strong foundation to our democracy, he also worked for women empowerment, industrial development and other weaker sections of the society”.

Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Virendra Kumar lauded the work done by Mr. Kovind during his tenure as President and said that he worked towards the upliftment of all sections of the society. Minister of State for Social Justice Ramdas Athawale also read some couplets praising Mr. Kovind.
