Prices of commercial vehicles to rise in Delhi as government considers hike in road tax

Those looking to buy cars, SUVs and commercial vehicles in Delhi may have to pay extra as the transport department in the national capital has proposed a hike in road tax for certain categories of vehicles that will ply on Delhi roads.

According to a report by news agency PTI, which quoted official sources as saying that a proposal to increase road tax on specific types of vehicles has been sent by the transport department to the finance department.

Road tax on private vehicles in Delhi currently stands at 12.5 per cent depending on the fuel type and price range.

The Transport Department of the Government of Delhi in its annual budget 2022-23 has approx. 2,000 crore from various taxes and duties.
