Several states including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal on Friday witnessed massive protests over controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad by two suspended BJP functionaries, in which some policemen were injured in stone pelting and security forces resorted to sticks. Had to take -Charges, tear gas shells and in some places firing in the air. The protesters turned violent in some areas and vandalized public property.
According to sources, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had already issued an advisory to all states to be alert for trouble ahead of Friday prayers.
The BJP on June 5 suspended Sharma and expelled Delhi unit’s media chief Naveen Kumar Jindal as a controversy erupted with protests from some Muslim countries over his alleged derogatory remarks against Prophet Mohammad. The Delhi Police had provided security to Sharma and his family after an FIR was lodged on a complaint that they were receiving death threats over his controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad. He had requested the police to provide security citing harassment and threats.

, Delhi: Outside the historic Jama Masjid in Delhi, thousands of people held placards, raised slogans against Sharma after Friday prayers and police made several arrests. A senior police officer said some of the protesters left after some time, while others continued to protest.
Jama Masjid’s Shahi Imam Bukhari told CNN-News18 that there was no call for protest from the Masjid Committee and the demonstrations started suddenly. “We need to keep the peace. It was a sudden protest. There were slogans. The protestors are yet to be identified. There was no call of protest by Jama Masjid,” he said.
Delhi Police said that some miscreants behind the Jama Masjid protest have been identified. “Legal action will be taken against those protesting,” police said.
Delhi Police has registered an FIR against 31 people including AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi and registered a separate case against controversial priest Yeti Narasimhanand, and Sharma for allegedly spreading hatred and hurting religious sentiments.
Two FIRs were registered on Wednesday after a social media analysis, he said.
, West Bengal: In Uluberia of Howrah district, protesters clashed with the police, who tried to clear the road block and lathi-charged them. At least 10 protesters have been arrested and IG South Bengal reached the spot along with a large contingent of police force.
Protesters blocked National Highway-16 and also blocked railway tracks at several places at Chengail, Phuleshwar and Santragachi stations of Howrah-Kharagpur section from 1.22 pm, a South Eastern Railway official said.
One of the protesters said that two leaders of the saffron party should be immediately arrested for remarks that hurt their religious sentiments. Police had to lathi-charge to disperse the crowd in Dhulagarh and Panchla, where the protesters pelted stones in retaliation, damaging nearby cars, the official said. He said they burnt tires on the road in Panchla and Dhulagarh and set a police kiosk on fire in Uluberia.
He said four trains have been cancelled, while two have been diverted due to agitation.
Meanwhile, Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar has appealed for calm and sought an immediate update on the law and order situation from the state chief secretary.
, Uttar Pradesh: Protests were held at several places in the state after Friday prayers. Slogans were raised in Saharanpur, Moradabad, Rampur and Lucknow, a senior official of the Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters in Lucknow said.
After the Friday prayers were over, people raised slogans and pelted stones in Atala area of Prayagraj. Heavy police force was deployed in the area to ensure law and order. Police and administrative officials have also reached the spot. Additional Director General (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar said, “Reports of stone pelting in Prayagraj are being investigated. He said that Friday prayers were held peacefully at most places across the state.

“Despite the efforts of the police and administration, some people deliberately tried to disturb the peace today. So far, we have arrested 109 people from different districts in this regard. The primary districts are Saharanpur, Ambedkarnagar, Firozabad, Moradabad and Prayagraj,” Kumar said.
Lucknow Police Commissioner Piyush Mordia has appealed to the people to maintain law and order. “There is an alert in the state. CM Yogi Adityanath is investigating this matter. We are in touch with the Maulanas. We did flag march and are making tight security arrangements across the state. We will request the people of Lucknow to maintain law and order in the state,” he said.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed to take strict action against the goons after stone pelting incidents in the state. Officers like ACS Home Avnish Awasthi, Acting DGP, ADG Law and Order are monitoring the situation from the Police Headquarters.
“Whoever will unnecessarily try to disrupt the peace and order situation, strict action will be taken against him. I appeal to the people of Uttar Pradesh to maintain harmony,” Awasthi told news agency ANI.
This comes after clashes broke out in Kanpur last week over his remarks on the Prophet in a TV debate a few days back. Thereafter, a high alert was sounded across the state and heavy police force was deployed to ensure that violence does not happen again.
, Telangana: Protests started outside Mecca Masjid in Hyderabad regarding this issue. Later, with the intervention of the police, the protesters were dispersed from the spot. Police force and CRPF are now deployed in the area.

Karnataka: Police said the miscreants hung Sharma’s effigy from an electric wire to resemble a public hanging near a mosque on Fort Road in Belagavi. He said that as soon as the issue created outrage among the people, the police along with the municipal corporation removed it immediately.
Police have registered a case against unknown miscreants for spreading enmity between communities and disturbing peace in the society.
, Jharkhand: Some policemen were injured while trying to control an angry mob near Hanuman Mandir on the capital’s Main Road in Ranchi, when hundreds of people demanded Sharma’s arrest, police said. In addition to aerial firing, the police resorted to lathi charge and stone pelting and sloganeering to control the crowd spread on the road after Friday prayers.
“Some policemen have been injured. We are watching the situation. We are strengthening the deployment,” a senior police officer told PTI. Raising slogans against Sharma and Jindal, a huge crowd of people gathered on the main road. Heavy security deployment has been made to control the situation and avoid any untoward incident.
According to police officials, the protests have been going on since morning and picked up pace after Friday prayers. Several shops and establishments closed their shutters in protest against the remarks. The protesters raised slogans demanding immediate arrest of Sharma.
“More than 1,100 shops in the market were closed since morning in protest against the remarks of Nupur Sharma and Naveen Jindal. We demand his immediate arrest,” Haji Mohammad Hasim, president of the New Daily Market Traders Welfare Association, told PTI. Hasim said that they wanted a peaceful procession but the police did not give permission. “That’s why we are protesting peacefully outside our shops here.

Responding to the same, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said, “I suddenly got information about this worrying (protest) incident. The people of Jharkhand have always been very sensitive and tolerant. There’s no need to panic. I appeal to all to refrain from participating in any such activity which may lead to more such offences.”
Meanwhile, Ranchi district administration said that curfew has been imposed in the violence-hit areas of the city. “The district administration has imposed curfew in Ranchi. We appeal to the people to stay home,” is being announced in Ranchi after protests. Section 144 has also been implemented in Hazaribagh district of the state.
In view of the protest, all internet services have been temporarily suspended in Ranchi till 6 am on June 11. The SSP, SP City, DSP City, Daily Market station in-charge and some other police personnel, who were controlling the situation during the demonstration, received injuries. Civilians have also been reported injured.

Everyone, from all religious backgrounds, should strive to continue that peace. The police was ready. The state witnessed only peaceful protests. ,
