The Commission officials took this decision after receiving mixed legal opinion on the matter of conducting a special main examination – a demand raised by a group of students, mostly those who had qualified the PSC-2019 main examination, for fresh additions to the select list. .
MPPSC Chairman Rajesh Lal Mehra told TOI, “The commission has not decided to go ahead” PSC-2019 Exam And waiting for the decision on the issue of OBC reservation.”
“Whenever the MPHC decides on the issue of OBC reservation, the commission will revise the preliminary results of PSC-2019 and then decide on the conduct of the main examination,” Mehra said.
On 7 April this year, the MP High Court directed the commission to continue with the recruitment process of PSC-2019 under the 2015 exam result, declaring the 2020 rules ultra vires. The Examination Rules 2020 barred the meritorious students of reserved category from selection to unreserved category seats.
The court then in an interim order had directed the commission to conduct the examination with 14% OBC reservation.
The commission, however, has decided otherwise and is awaiting a verdict in the OBC reservation case, which took the overall reservation in the state to 73% after the MP government raised the quota to 27% in 2019.
On the question of the Special Main Examination, Dr Mehra said, “The Commission has not yet decided to conduct the Special Main Examination”, and added, “There cannot be two examinations for one recruitment as it will set a wrong precedent.” ”
“The commission is looking at different options as it has mixed legal opinion, with both pros and cons,” Mehra said.
In the PSC-2019 exam, more than 3 lakh candidates had applied for the pre-exam. Of them, 10,717 appeared in the main examination and in 1918 were shortlisted for interview, before the court asked the commission to revise the result.
