Peshawar Zalmi defeated Lahore Qalandars in the first Super Over of this Pakistan Super League on Monday.
Captain Shaheen Shah Afridi scored 23 runs in the last regular over as Lahore Qalandars finished 158-8 to tie Peshawar’s 158-7 effort.
Peshawar skipper Wahab Riaz conceded just five runs in a well-organized Super Over and veteran Shoaib Malik hit two consecutive boundaries off Afridi’s first two balls to win the game.
Both teams finished the group stage with 12 points but Lahore finished second on a better net run-rate than Peshawar.
Lahore will take on league leaders Multan Sultans on Wednesday for a place in the final, while Peshawar will take on Islamabad United in the Eliminator on Thursday. The Multan-Lahore loser will have another chance to make it to the final on Sunday when they face the winner of the Eliminator on Friday.
Peshawar struggled against spinners Fawad Ahmed (2-26) and Mohammad Hafeez (1-16), with Malik being dismissed at long on for 32.
Lahore struggled in the chase against Riaz (2–19) and pacer Arshad Iqbal (2–30), playing his first game of the season. But Afridi took the game into the Super Over with a six off the last ball and a four in the sensational last over.
