The founder of Puthiya Tamilgam, K. Krishnasamy on Friday blamed money power for not fielding candidates for more seats in the urban local body elections.
He started a protest in Chennai against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
According to State Election Commission data, Puthiya Tamilgam fielded candidates in just 55 wards and won only four wards, apart from winning three wards as independents.
For the 2021 assembly elections, the party demanded the renaming of the Pallar community to Devendrakula Vellar as well as the removal of the community from the Scheduled Castes list.
Despite Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement of a change in the name of the community ahead of the election, the PT contested 60 assembly seats on its own, where the party has traditionally been strong but failed to win a seat.
When asked why PT and BJP did not contest the elections together, Dr. Krishnasamy said Hindu That this was something the BJP had to answer for.
“We have supported the BJP on many issues. You have to ask them why we are not in their alliance.
He blamed the “corrupt” method of fielding a limited number of candidates from his party in which the local body elections were held in Tamil Nadu.
“For many years, money has become the deciding factor. Especially with state power in hand, people are corrupt in many ways. Everyone knows what will happen and what happened. Our party workers were never in the cradle of power nor did they earn money. Our party is strong in rural South Tamil Nadu. In urban areas, we are strong only in two-three wards. We fought elections wherever possible. We could have contested more seats, but the problem is money and malpractices, especially by the ruling party.
