Puducherry region received 52.4 mm of rain till 8.30 am on Thursday. Within the region, Pathukannu received 46 mm, Bahaur, 41 mm and Tirukannur 40 mm, according to data available with the State Emergency Operations Centre.
Due to heavy rains on Wednesday night, minor flooding occurred in areas like Krishna Nagar, Pawan Nagar and Rainbow Nagar, an official release said.
Collector Purva Garg said that people have been shifted to relief camps and the government has opened 194 temporary camps. So far around 13,000 food packets have been distributed to the affected persons.
Ms Garg said the large tanks were filled to capacity. The level was 2.78 m in the Bahaur tank and 3.37 m in the Osudu tank. He said that 21 huts and 4 houses were damaged in the rains after the onset of northeast monsoon. Twenty-five cattle were lost.

Laxminarayanan said a short-term assistance of ₹2,500 each would be given to about 18,200 fishermen families on Monday, in addition to ₹4,500 to an estimated 13,000 families under a central government scheme.
