Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s first cabinet expansion today; 5 MLAs likely to attend

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will expand his cabinet on Monday and five MLAs are expected to be inducted as ministers, news agency ANI reported. The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Punjab Raj Bhavan at 5 pm.

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit will administer the oath of office and secrecy to those attending. This will be the first cabinet expansion of the Bhagwant Mann-led government in more than three months after the Aam Aadmi Party came to power in Punjab.

With the addition of five more ministers, the number of Mann-led cabinet will increase to 15 including the chief minister. Among the names being discussed for the post of minister were Aman Arora, a two-time MLA from Sunam; Dr. Inderbir Singh Nijjar, MLA from Amritsar South; MLA from Kharar, Anmol Gagan Mann; Fauja Singh, MLA from Guru Har Sahay; Chetan Singh Jauramajra, MLA from Samana seat; Sarvjit Kaur Manuke, two-time MLA from Jagraon; Baljinder Kaur, two-time MLA from Talwandi Sabo; And Buddha Ram was a two-time MLA from Budhlada.

However, AAP has kept silent on who will be included in the cabinet. After AAP formed the government after a landslide victory in the 2022 assembly elections, Mann-led cabinet inducted 10 MLAs as ministers.

There are 18 berths in the cabinet including the Chief Minister. At present, there are nine ministers in the cabinet led by Mann.

In May, Health Minister Vijay Singla was sacked from the state cabinet on corruption charges. The Aam Aadmi Party returned to power in Punjab by winning 92 seats out of a total of 117.
