Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said that the government will soon complete the process of regularizing the remaining 28,000 contractual employees in the state, asserting that his government is against the contractual system of employment.

Addressing the new recruitments in PWD and Electricity Department, the Chief Minister said, “The entire process is being done to protect the interests of these employees, and they will get good news soon.”

Mann said the services of 8,736 employees have already been regularized and the process of regularization of others is underway.

He said that the previous government had made various appointments on ‘Group C’ and ‘Group D’ level posts on contract/temporary basis.

In a statement, the CM said, some such employees have now completed a period of more than 10 years and have given the prime years of their life in the service of the state.

Mann said that his government is completely against the contract system of employment as it is highly exploitative, the statement said.

Mann said that these employees have to work at very low rates, due to which they have to suffer a lot, due to which the future of the youth has moved towards darkness.

He said that the need of the hour is to channelize the immense energy of the youth in a positive direction.

Mann said that since becoming the Chief Minister on March 16, emphasis is being laid on providing employment to the youth. He said that so far 18,543 youths have been given government jobs in the state.

He further said that 2500 people are also being recruited in the police department this month and added that his government is committed to eliminate unemployment from the state.

Later in the day, presiding over a meeting of the Sugarcane Control Board here, Mann said the state government was committed to ensure timely procurement and payment of their produce to protect the interest of sugarcane farmers.

He said that the state government has already decided to increase the price of sugarcane from Rs 360 per quintal to Rs 380 per quintal.

The Chief Minister said that the State Government has decided to increase the price to increase the income of the farmers to promote the cultivation of sugarcane in the State.

He also said that the state government will soon resolve the pending issues related to payment of Phagwara sugar mill.

Mann said that adequate steps would be taken to buy sugarcane crop from farmers around Phagwara Sugar Mill and added that no farmer would face any kind of inconvenience in selling his produce.
