Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chips for next-gen smartphones

Chip-maker Qualcomm on Friday announced the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 and Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 mobile platforms for the next generation of premium and high-end Android smartphones focused on gaming and high-speed connectivity. With the improved Qualcomm Adreno GPU, the Snapdragon 8+ claims to deliver up to 10 percent faster speed and 30 percent power reduction to deliver the best gameplay experience.

Users can expect 60 extra minutes of gameplay with the Snapdragon 8+, which also features a Qualcomm Kryo CPU with up to 10 percent faster processing and up to 30 percent improvement in power efficiency.

“In the mobile segment, our primary focus is to deliver new, unprecedented features and technologies for the industry and for the flagship devices of our customers. We have been putting these features first on our own,” said Christopher Patrick, senior vice president and general manager of mobile handsets at Qualcomm. Let’s implement these in the Snapdragon 8-series and then incorporate them into their mobile roadmap.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 will be adopted by leading global OEMs and brands including ASUS ROG, Black Shark, HONOR, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nubia, OnePlus, OPPO, OSOM, realme, RedMagic, Redmi, vivo, Xiaomi, and ZTE. With commercial equipment expected to be available in Q3 2022.

The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 packs the latest technologies like 8K HDR video recording, and is capable of capturing in premium HDR10+ format. On the other hand, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 brings a selection of high-end, in-demand features and technologies to more people around the world.

The company said that the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 that will be adopted by major global OEMs and brands including HONOR, OPPO and Xiaomi is expected to be available in the second quarter of 2022.

The improved Adreno GPU in the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 delivers over 20 percent faster graphics rendering. The platform also supports amplified audio featuring an immersive Quad HD+ display and anti-hauling for multi-player gaming.

It has a Qualcomm ‘Spectra Triple ISP’ allowing users to shoot simultaneously from three cameras or take pictures at 200MP – a first in the Snapdragon 7 series.

“Users can take advantage of staggering 4K HDR, which produces extreme brightness and deep blacks with incredible contrast, sharpness and realism,” the company said.
