Qualcomm markets its PC hardware to different brands

Qualcomm is looking to build on the existing Snapdragon 8cx hardware for PCs and match it with the level of Apple M-series chips.

Qualcomm is a chipset behemoth in the mobile sector, but the company is equally keen to raise its profile in the PC industry, where it will soon have rival hardware against the Apple M2 silicon.

Qualcomm is working on a chipset that is likely to be included in the Snapdragon 8cx Gen series as per the report. This hardware is expected to be included in Windows laptops that have offered all-time connectivity, and the 8cx Gen 4 SoC should bring 5G to notebooks in the coming months.

Qualcomm vs Apple – Enter the PC Arena

Apple surprised the world by bringing its in-house silicon called M1, which has now entered its second-gen version. The company has managed to replace Intel-run Macs with M-series chips, and their performance has been encouraging.

The scary part is that Apple might raise the levels further with the rumored 3nm-based M3 chipset coming next year. For Qualcomm, the 8cx Gen 4 is touted to be its highest performing processor in the series with higher clock speeds.

5G has become a staple for mobile devices over the past few years, but we are yet to see its progress in the PC segment. Apple’s M2 Pro and M2 Max support up to 64GB of RAM and it’s early days for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8cx Gen 4 chipset, which means broad details of the chip are unknown.

The brands that have partnered with Qualcomm have focused on improving the battery life of these Snapdragon-powered laptops, especially since they offer all-time connectivity through a digital SIM. So it’s imperative that chip makers find the right balance between performance and power efficiency, just as Apple plans its hardware products.
