Rahul Bajaj – The man who puts the average Indian on two motorized wheels

A Padma Bhushan-award winner Rahul Bajaj He was one of the longest serving Chairman in Corporate India. He breathed his last at Ruby Hall Hospital in Pune.

He passed away on the afternoon of 12 February. 2022 in the presence of his close family members,” Bajaj Group said in a statement.

Rahul Bajaj stepped down as non-executive chairman of Bajaj Auto in April 2021 to his cousin Neeraj Bajaj.

He had resigned from the executive role of Bajaj Group Companies before his election to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament, 2006. He served as a member of the Rajya Sabha from 2006 to 2010.

Rahul Bajaj’s younger son Sanjeev Bajaj has taken over as the chairman of both the group’s finance companies – Bajaj Finance and Bajaj Finserv. His elder son Rajiv Bajaj is the Managing Director of Bajaj Auto.

Born on 10 June 1938, Rahul Bajaj took over as the Chief Executive Officer of Bajaj Auto in 1968 and was appointed as the Managing Director of the company in 1972. He resigned from that position in 2005.

Bajaj also served as the chairman or chairman of several industry bodies. He served as the President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) twice – from 1979 to 1980 and again from 1999 to 2000.

He served as the chairman of the then Indian Airlines from 1986 to 1989. He also served as the President of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

Rahul Bajaj holds a bachelor’s degree in economics, a law degree from the University of Mumbai and an MBA from Harvard.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has also condoled the death of Bajaj.

“The passing away of Rahul Bajaj, Honorary President of Bajaj Group is a loss to the business community of India. My condolences to the bereaved family and the group,” Chouhan said in a tweet.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) President Sharad Pawar also condoled the death of Rahul Bajaj.

“I am deeply shocked to know about the sad demise of Padma Bhushan Shri Rahul Bajaj! The grandson of eminent freedom fighter Jamnalal Bajaj brought a change in the society especially among the poor and middle class people with his two wheeler technology – Bajaj bike! ” Pawar tweeted.

In another tweet, he said, “Affordable vehicle increased mobility, eased struggle to get a means of livelihood and became an instrument of socio-economic transformation. We are deeply indebted to him for his immense contribution to the Indian industry.”

“I am saddened by the passing of my very close friend. India has lost an industrialist, a philanthropist and a beacon for young entrepreneurs! Our Bajaj,” he said.

Former Union Minister Praful Patel said that the credit for making Bajaj a household name goes to Rahul Bajaj.

Patel tweeted, “Saddened by the passing away of renowned industrialist and the longest serving Chairman in Corporate India, Rahul Bajaj. He is credited with making the Bajaj brand a household name. To his family members. My heartfelt condolences.”

Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule tweeted, “Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Padma Bhushan Rahul Bajaj. He was one of our nation’s foremost business leaders, and an inspiration to all. We love him and his Will miss the wise lawyer very much.” , (ANI)
