India head coach Rahul Dravid threw light on Shreyas Iyer’s place in the playing XI for the upcoming second Test against Australia. The Men in Blue will face the Kangaroos in a Border-Gavaskar Trophy match on February 17 in Delhi.

Shreyas Iyer has completed his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy and will join the Test team soon. The middle-order batsman suffered a back injury and has been cleared by the BCCI medical team to join the Men in Blue. However, his place in the line-up is yet to be confirmed. Dravid talked about Iyer’s chances of playing the second Test.

“It is always good to have someone back from injury. We never like to lose people to injuries and it is not good for any team, good for the guy and glad he (Iyer) is fit. We will decide after a few training sessions.”

“Today, he did some training. We will assess it again tomorrow when he comes in for a mild hit and see how he feels.”

“But of course, if he is prepared to shoulder the burden of a five-day Test match, then without a doubt, with his performances in the past, he will come straight into the team.”

However, Dravid has no hesitation in saying that a replacement player, even if he scores a century or takes a five-wicket haul, will have to sit out when the first-choice player returns from injury.

“Yeah, without writing in stone or writing in the rules, of course, we value the contribution of those who have been there and missed out due to injury. They really deserve the right to come back, even if What happened during his injury.

He then went on to explain why he thinks Iyer is qualified.

“Shreyas has played well but ever since he has been around, he has had a different temperament in some pressure situations. During his first match in Kanpur and in the last year and a half, every time, he has been in tough situations. ” He, Rishabh and Jadeja are the ones getting us out and playing those crucial innings.

“In Bangladesh, we were under pressure and he got us out with Ashwin and that’s a good sign. Having spent a lot of time in domestic cricket along with his skills to play spin, obviously he understands how to run. Receive.

“But what matters at this level is your ability to deal with pressure situations, that temperament and ability to find solutions when you’re under pressure. From the small sample size we have, he’s been very good at that.” He is. He has been. He is one of the better players and he deserves it.

Shreyas Iyer Injury:

The 28-year-old played in the two-match Test series in Bangladesh in December last year. However, he was ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand due to suffering from lower back inflammation.
