Rahul Gandhi wishes chopper crash survivor “quick and complete” recovery

On Thursday, Group Captain Varun Singh was shifted to Air Force Command Hospital in Bangalore.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday wished a “speedy and full” recovery to Varun Singh, the lone survivor of the Tamil Nadu military helicopter crash, and said the nation stood with him on his path of recovery.

“Wishing Group Captain Varun Singh a speedy and full recovery. India stands with you on this road to recovery,” Mr Gandhi said on Twitter.

According to an Indian Air Force official, Group Captain Singh’s medical condition remains critical, but his condition is stable.

On Thursday, Group Captain Singh was shifted from Military Hospital in Wellington to Air Force Command Hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment.

The Group Captain was recently awarded the Shaurya Chakra for an act of exceptional gallantry by President Ram Nath Kovind.

13 of the 14 people on board the Mi-17 V5 helicopter, including India’s first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), his wife Madhulika Rawat, were killed after the crash on December 8.

Chief of Defense Staff General Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat, his defense advisor Brigadier Lakhbinder Singh Lidder, Staff Officer Lt Col Harjinder Singh and nine other Armed Forces personnel including Air Force helicopter crew were among those killed in the accident.
