Rajasthan BJP has targeted the Congress over the presence of those accused of communal violence at Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s Iftar party.

The accused, identified as Asif Ansari, who was involved in the violence that took place in Rajasthan’s Baran district in April 2021, was present at an Iftar party at Gehlot’s official residence earlier this month.

Several senior ministers in the Ashok Gehlot government, including Mamta Bhupesh and Congress MLA Rafiq Khan, were seen in pictures with Hazari at the Iftar party.

BJP MLA Ramlal Sharma said, “Congress does politics of appeasement and this has been seen many times whether it is in Karauli or elsewhere. This particular incident once again shows the politics of minority appeasement by Congress.”

Describing it as “a matter of concern”, Chhabra MLA Pratap Singh Singhvi demanded that an inquiry should be conducted into the circumstances that led to an invitation to the accused of Chhabra violence at Gehlot’s residence to breach the Chief Minister’s security.

Meanwhile, Pratap Singh Khachariawas, a cabinet minister in the Gehlot government, said, “I don’t know this particular person, but I have heard that his wife is a Congress corporator. If BJP leaders level allegations against someone, you should ask them.” . Provide a copy of the FIR. If you go to the BJP office, many people accused of different things can be seen there. What does this mean?”

Asif Ansari is currently out on interim bail.

Last year, communal violence erupted in Chhabra, Baran, Rajasthan over a car parking incident. After an altercation between groups of people and one person was stabbed. This reportedly led to communal clashes in the area.
