Shergarh MLA Meera Kanwaro and her husband Umaid SinghA PCC member, went to the police station and allegedly thrashed the staff for seizing the vehicle and booking the relative.
Under pressure, the police released the accused with both and arranged for the vehicle to be released from the court on Monday.
The legislator then justified the drinking by saying that “the children are behind everyone; kya hua a little bit le li toh” (everyone’s children drink, so what if a little is drunk) and demanded the immediate release of the relative. .
A video of the couple protesting and misbehaving at the police station went viral on Monday, which was recorded by a policeman. Meena Kanwar, however, claimed that the police misbehaved with her nephew.
She alleged, “He was not found under the influence of alcohol. After he informed us, we reached the station but the police behaved rudely with us.”
Ratnada police on Sunday night seized a vehicle from the driver who was allegedly drunk and registered a case under section 185 of the MV Act.
The accused person, identified as the nephew of Shergarh MLA Meena Kanwar, reached the police station with her husband and allegedly started assaulting the police.
Despite being offered chairs by the policemen, the couple sat down on the ground at the police station and allegedly started pressuring the police to leave the vehicle and the accused immediately.
Umaid Singh accused the policemen of being drunk and asked a sitting policeman to leave the chair and stand in front of the MLA.
In the video, policemen can be heard asking him to behave.
The information reached the higher officials and the nephew was allowed to accompany the couple.
The police made arrangements to complete the formalities in the magistrate court to release the abandoned vehicle on Monday.
DCP (East) Bhuvan Bhushan Yadav said that the matter is being probed by ACP (East).
“We will be able to come to any conclusion only after the investigation,” Yadav said.
