SBSP President Om Prakash Rajbhar said on Monday that he has sought time from the Samajwadi Party leader. Akhilesh Yadav to discuss their alliance, indicating that the outcome of the meeting could determine their party’s stance on the presidential election. The Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party (SBSP) leader also said that he would wait till Tuesday to know the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief’s stand before taking a decision on who to vote for in the upcoming presidential election. “I want to know from the SP chief that under what circumstances I was not invited to the program organized for Yashwant Sinha, the United Opposition’s candidate for the presidential election,” he said. Rajbhar said that he will also discuss other issues related to the alliance, in which his party is involved.
The SBSP leader, who on Friday created a stir in the opposition group by attending a dinner hosted by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in honor of NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu, said he would announce that his party would contest the July 18 elections. I had a telephonic conversation with SP leader Udayveer Singh in this regard on Sunday. I told Singh that I want to meet Akhilesh Yadav.
The SBSP has six MLAs in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The party chief had recently contested the state assembly elections as an ally of the SP-led opposition group. Expressing happiness over Murmu’s candidature, he said that he fights for the Dalits and the most backward classes.
Asked whether praising Murmu means supporting the NDA candidate, he said, “I am saying what is right.” “There is still election time,” he said without elaborating. Rajbhar said that Bhimrao Ambedkar, Ram Manohar Lohia and Deendayal Upadhyay wanted marginalized people to be brought forward in politics. Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia) chiefs Rajbhar and Shivpal Yadav attended a dinner hosted by Adityanath in Murmu’s honor last week, showing a chill in the opposition camp which is backing Yashwant Sinha for the top constitutional post.
Jansatta Dal’s democratic chief Raghuraj Pratap Singh, also known as Raja Bhaiya, and Uma Shankar Singh, the lone BSP MLA in Uttar Pradesh, were also present at the dinner held at the chief minister’s official residence. Rajbhar, an influential OBC leader, was with the BJP in 2017 before joining the SP-led opposition in the 2022 state elections. He had also gone to Buxar in neighboring Bihar on Monday to attend the last rites of Uttar Pradesh minister Dayashankar Singh’s father.
