Ram Mandir Construction: Two Shaligram stones from Nepal reached Ayodhya on Thursday for the Ram temple. The sacred stones at Lord Ram’s birthplace were welcomed by priests and locals, who decorated the boulders with garlands and performed rituals before handing them over to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.

The boulders are expected to be used for making idols of Ram and Janaki, which will be placed in the main temple complex of the under-construction Ram temple. Shaligram reached Gorakhpur on Wednesday, where it was thrown open to devotees for worship. “There is a spring named Kali Gandaki in Nepal. It originates from Damodar Kund and Ganeshwar Dham is about 85 km north of Gandaki. Both these boulders were brought from there. This place is situated at an altitude of 6,000 feet above sea level People even say it is crores of years old. The two boulders weigh around 30 tonnes and 14-15 tonnes,” said Champat Rai, general secretary, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra.

Nepali officials said that the two sacred stones, one weighing 18 tonnes and the other 16 tonnes, have been approved both technically and scientifically for making the idol. The stone convoy traveled from Pipraon Church of Madhubani in Bihar, which holds religious significance, and would take a night halt at two places in Muzaffarpur and Gorakhpur before reaching Ayodhya.

The Nepalese leader said that the Janaki temple would later send the bow to the Ram temple in Ayodhya as per the specification of the Ram temple trust.
