Bollywood star Rani Mukerji will debut as a writer with her “clear, intimate” autobiography on her birthday on March 21 next year, publisher HarperCollins India announced on Friday.

The book is a “deeply personal and downright honest” account of Mukherjee’s journey as an actor in the film industry.

Mukherjee said the autobiography highlights his personal trials and tribulations and the impact it had on him as he navigated the film business and his career.

“In the 25 years I have spent so lovingly in the Indian film industry, I have never spoken my heart out about my life and my journey in cinema. As women in cinema, we are constantly judged.. It’s time to stop, look at my life retrospectively and introspectively,” the 44-year-old actor said in a statement.

He said that the memoir is his way of remembering his childhood days.

Bushra Ahmed, senior commissioning editor for HarperCollins India, described Mukherjee as an actor “who stands out by the powerful portrayal of women in his films”.

“For many of us who grew up in the 2000s, Rani Mukerji was everything an actor should be: beautiful, refreshingly different and a compelling performer. She belongs in cinema from a time when stars used to shine on the silver screen without dazzling social media fame,” said Ahmed.
