RBI reshuffles the portfolio of dye Guavs; Poonam Gupta gets Monetary Policy Department charge

Mumbai, May 2 (PTI) The Reserve Bank of India on Friday added the portfolio of its Lieutenant Governors, in which the newly appointed Poonam Gupta was given the charge of the major monetary policy department.

RBI has four deputy governors.

The Central Bank reshuffled the portfolio as a sub -governor as a result of the perception of appointment and allegation by Gupta.

In addition to monetary policy, he has been entrusted with the responsibility of corporate strategy and seven other departments including budget, communication and financial stability.

M Rajeshwar Rao will take care of six departments, including coordination, regulation, enforcement and risk monitoring.

He was taking care of the Department of Michael Debbrata Patra in January after the Monetary Policy Department.

Deputy Governor T Rabi Shankar will take care of 12 departments. These include Central Security Cell, Information Technology, Payment and Settlement System, Department of Forex and Fintech.

Swaminathan Janakiraman has been entrusted with the responsibility of consumer education, supervision, inspection and four other departments.

The distribution of portfolio is applicable from Friday.

Gupta took over as the first deputy governor during the day.

Immediately before this appointment, she was the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER). He also served as a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister and also as the convenor of the 16th Finance Commission Advisory Council.

Before joining NCAER, Gupta served senior positions in the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank for about two decades. Gupta also taught Delhi School of Economics, University of Maryland (USA) and also as a faculty at the Indian Statistical Institute, Delhi.

She holds a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Maryland, USA and a Master in Economics from PhD and Delhi School of Economics. PTI NKD NKD Anu AU
