Virat Kohli is in the middle of a nightmare in IPL 2022 but his Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis has backed him to come well. Virat Kohli has so far scored 128 runs in 9 matches at an average of 16.

On Tuesday, Virat Kohli was promoted to open the innings for RCB against Rajasthan Royals but managed to score only 9 runs. Prior to this game, Kohli had bagged back-to-back golden ducks.

While former India coach Ravi Shastri and former England batsman Kevin Pietersen called on Virat Kohli to take a break and come back strong, du Plessis said that RCB was backing him to turn things around.

Speaking to Star Sports after the match, du Plessis said that the greats go through phases like Kohli is going through and added that he was sent for the opening, so he has to wait for his chance with a lean patch. Didn’t have time to think about it. Bat.

“Great players go through these things. Great players go through these kinds of phases. We wanted him to come straight in so that he doesn’t sit on the sidelines and think about the game.

Du Plessis said, “He (Kohli) is a great player and we still support him to turn him around and hopefully it’s close. It’s a game of confidence.”

Faf du Plessis said that RCB conceded 20 runs too many and allowed RR to reach a challenging total in IPL 2022 despite picking up early wickets including Orange Cap holder Jos Buttler. Du Plessis also said that RCB need to plug the loopholes in their top-order batting.

He said, “We gave 20 runs too much and the cost of the dropped catch was 25. 140 was a par score on that pitch. That is what we need to fix.

“The basics of the game don’t change. You need to bat through someone in the top four and we haven’t. We’ll have to try and change the batting order and see if it works. Have to do it and play positively after the last game we discussed it, tried to get the best out of it.”
