RThe Elli show has become an integral part of entertainment in India. From singing and dance competitions to challenges and dating shows of existence, they attract millions of viewers, especially adolescents. These shows promise enthusiasm, drama and fame, but below the surface, they create a distorted perception of reality. Many teenagers who are still shaping their own understanding of the world are affected by these programs that can affect their mental health, expectations and behavior.
They provide a sense of relationship with participants who appear to be common people chasing their dreams. Unlike scripted shows, reality TV presents itself as “real life”, making it even more attractive. However, most of these programs are highly edited, scripts in parts, and designed to increase drama for high TRPs. Despite this, many teenagers believe that what they see is an accurate representation of life.
In addition, these shows glorify fame and success in a short period. Whether it is a talent hunting, a business competition, or a social experiment, they confuse that winning a competition can change one’s life overnight. This can inspire young minds to believe that hard work, patience and gradual progress is not necessary for success.
One of the biggest concerns is how reality shows promote unrealistic beauty standards. Many talent-based and dating show the current contestants that fit certain beauty ideals such as the right body size, innocent skin and stylish appearances. These views set up an unhealthy benchmark for teenagers, leading to the issue of body image, insecurity and even disorders such as anorexia and depression.
Additionally, reality shows often promote a materialistic lifestyle. Expensive clothes, luxury holidays and extraordinary parties have been shown as common aspects of life. It creates pressure on teenagers to desire a lifestyle that may not be obtained for everyone, which can cause dissatisfaction and unnecessary stress.
Another negative effect is their influence on behavior. Many programs thrive on struggle, aggression and sensation. They often facilitate logic, derogatory language and even physical attacks. For influential teenagers, such behavior may also seem acceptable or necessary for success. Some people can start believing that rude or manipulation is a way to move forward in life.
In addition, many reality shows promote unhealthy competition. Instead of highlighting teamwork and personal development, they focus on winning at any cost. It can create a mentality where teenagers value success on morality and fairness.
Reality TV also affects adolescents emotionally. Many programs use emotional story to gain sympathy for contestants, sometimes exaggerate their struggles. Such manipulation can blur the line between real emotions and scripted plays, which can cause highly sensitive, or doubt about real -life conditions.
In addition, excessive attachment to reality shows can be addicted. Some teenagers spend hours on social media to see, discuss and follow their favorite contestants. It not only wastes valuable time, but also affects studies and personal development.
While the reality shows are not completely bad, their impact requires more awareness about their effects. Parents, teachers and society should educate teenagers about the difference between reality and entertainment. School students can present media literacy programs to help students seriously analyze.
Reality show makers also have a responsibility. They should focus on creating materials that encourage talent, positivity and moral values rather than just drama and controversy. If reality shows highlight stories of real conflict, teamwork and real success, they can motivate teenagers in a healthy way.
Teenagers themselves should be conscious of their screen time and do not let reality shows shape their self-values. Instead of following blind trends from TV, they should focus on real -life skills, education and personal development.
Reality shows are a powerful medium that affects teenagers’ ideas and aspirations. While they offer entertainment and opportunities, they also create unrealistic expectations about beauty, success and behavior. It is important for adolescents to understand that these shows are not always a reflection of real life. By promoting important thinking and media awareness, we can help them enjoy entertainment without distorting their perception of reality.
