The Karnataka government’s recent decision to remove a text about Bhagat Singh from the Class 10 textbook has drawn criticism from various quarters. The latest dig has been taken by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who described the Karnataka government’s decision as “shameful”. Hitting out at the BJP-led Karnataka government, Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said it was an insult to the sacrifice made by the eminent freedom fighter, and demanded that the Karnataka government reinstate the text in the school textbook.
Retweeting a News18 news article, the Delhi CM said the country will not tolerate such insults to its martyrs, and asked the BJP why “its people” hate Bhagat Singh so much.

Why do BJP people hate Amar Shaheed Sardar Bhagat Singh ji so much? Removal of Sardar Bhagat Singh ji’s name from school books is an insult to the sacrifice of Amar Shaheed,” Kejriwal tweeted in Hindi.
The country will never tolerate such disrespect to its martyrs. The BJP government will have to withdraw this decision.
Minister defending the move
The CM’s reaction comes a day after the Karnataka government decided to include a speech by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar in a revised Kannada textbook for Class X students, while about Bhagat Singh A text has been removed. Additionally, Karnataka’s primary and secondary education minister BC Nagesh has defended the inclusion of the RSS’s founding speech.
Nagesh said the textbook does not contain anything about Hedgewar or the RSS, but his speech on what should be an inspiration to the people, especially the youth, and those who objected have not read the textbook. “Some people want to object to everything and they feel that what they have said is only true and only their thinking has to be conveyed to the society… Has to be taken as his own or his inspiration. He has talked about the importance of society and nation. What is wrong with that?” The minister said.
oppose this move
Several organizations including All India Democratic Students Organization (AIDSO) and All-India Save Education Committee (AISEC) have opposed the move.
The organizations accused freedom fighter Bhagat Singh of not taking a lesson. Works of Renaissance litterateurs such as AN Murti Rao’s ‘Vyagrgeete’, P Lankesh’s Mriga Mattu Sundari, and Sara Abubakar’s War have also been omitted. In a statement, the AISEC alleged that the BJP government in the state was trying to impose the ideology of the RSS and the party in the textbooks.
“The founders of our renaissance movement and many great freedom fighters had hoped for democratic, scientific and secular education. But till now all the ruling political parties are working on their own agenda in the textbooks,” the student unions told The Hindu. Quoting said.
