Restrictions on gathering in Guwahati ahead of Amit Shah’s visit

Before Union Home Minister Amit ShahAuthorities on Sunday imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) during the visit of K.

A notification shared by Commissioner of Police Diganta Barah said that some individuals or groups were expected to disrupt regular operations of offices, disrupt public movement and create traffic disturbances in the coming days.

The notification also expressed concern that these groups or individuals may indulge in protests or demonstrations in the city, resulting in disturbance of peace and public order.

“It is necessary to take preventive measures to ensure peaceful movement of public, traffic and normal activities of local residents and functioning of offices in the above mentioned area,” the order said.

Effective immediately till further notice, assembly of more than five persons and holding of processions or raising of slogans are prohibited in the entire jurisdiction of the Commissioner of Police.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a cabinet meeting to deliberate on the upcoming visit of Amit Shah, who is expected to arrive in Guwahati on Wednesday night on a two-day visit.

The Chief Minister’s Office tweeted, “Foundation stone laying and distribution of appointment letters for National Forensic Science University to be held during Hon’ble Home Minister’s visit.”

After the meeting, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said that Amit Shah would be present at the official distribution ceremony of appointment letters to around 45,000 persons selected for various government posts.

“We had an in-depth discussion on the smooth conduct of both the programmes. Senior officers from all departments were also present in the meeting,” he said.
