Cardinal George Elanchery, Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, who led members of the Permanent Synod to the meetings in Rome, said the outcome of the meetings would be known in due course.
In a letter on Monday after his return from Rome, addressed to bishops, priests, consecrated persons and the faithful here, the cardinal said the Ernakulam team had “very detailed discussions” with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State at the Vatican. and Archbishop Claudio Guggerotti, Prefect of the Pontifical Diocese for the Eastern Churches.
“We told him about the situation at the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archeology Department. He listened to us and assessed the situation. The outcome of the meeting will come in due course,” said the cardinal.
He appealed to church members to refrain from public comments and speculations that would further disturb the unity of the church.
Meanwhile, Father Antony Vadakkekara, secretary of the Syro-Malabar Church Media Commission, said in a broadcast on Shekinah News that the team led by the cardinal and comprised of Archbishops Mathew Mulakkat, Andrews Thajath, Joseph Perumthottam and Joseph Pamplani had held discussions in Rome. He said the talks in Rome were fruitful, and members of the deliberating Permanent Synod had received constructive suggestions from the Vatican to resolve all issues. The Synod will now adopt measures to implement the recommendations.
