Amid rising COVID-19 cases, the Kerala government on Friday decided to make classes online for students of classes 1 to 9 from January 21. The decision was taken at a COVID-19 assessment meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The government said that the online classes for the students will start from January 21 and will last for two weeks.
“The decision on whether or not to continue with the online form of classes will be taken after the second week of February. School authorities will be empowered to close classes for two weeks in case the institute becomes a cluster.” Apart from schools, the government has decided to give relief to pregnant government employees and said that work from home facility is available for them. “All official events of the government and public sector undertakings should be conducted in a virtual manner,” the release said. The government has decided to request those Sabarimala pilgrims who have booked their slots from January 16 to reschedule their visits. In the evaluation meeting, it has also been decided to limit the number of persons inside shops and malls and asked the district authorities to ensure social distancing. In the meeting, the health and education departments were directed to jointly ensure that the students of classes 10, 11 and 12 are vaccinated in their schools.
