Former United Kingdom finance minister Rishi Sunak, one of the favorites to become the next prime minister, today formally announced that he is running to become the next Conservative Party leader and prime minister. He already has the support of over 100 MPs – the minimum requirement to hold the top post.
“I want to fix my economy, unite my party and work for my country,” he said in a tweet. He said the election his party will now decide whether the next generation of British people will have more opportunities than the previous generation. ,

The 42-year-old is clearly at the fore as he races with the support of at least 128 Tory members of parliament, even as loyalists of his former boss – Boris Johnson – claim he has it. There are 100 MP required to make. shortlist
While Mr Johnson has yet to officially announce his candidacy, the contest is shaping up to be a three-way battle between Mr Sunak, Mr Johnson and third-placed leader of the Commons Penny Mordant.
Reports say that Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak also had a one-on-one conversation late Saturday night.
The BBC and others reported that former Prime Minister Johnson, who returned from a Caribbean vacation earlier in the day aimed at launching an audacious political comeback just weeks after leaving office, met with Mr Sunak to discuss the race.
Liz Truss had to resign on her 45th day as prime minister because her plans for tax cuts did not work as there was no clarity on how she would fund them – the shortest term for a UK prime minister. Boris Johnson resigned in July after serving three years, due to a series of scandals such as partying during the COVID lockdown.

If it goes to vote, if there is more than one with the support of 100 MPs, the whole process will be completed by October 28.
