Former India all-rounder Ritinder Sodhi has praised Rohit Sharma for having a clear vision while leading the team. The 41-year-old said that Rohit’s belief in players has helped him gain confidence and perform well in tough conditions. Backing up his observation with examples from Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant, Sodhi said that the Indian cricket captain has given him the confidence he needed.
“Rohit has faith in his players and that makes a big difference. Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant are excellent batsmen. At times they may not be successful, but when they do, they will win you the big game,” Sodhi said while speaking on the Khelneeti podcast.
These comments came after Kishan’s 89 off 58 balls against Sri Lanka on Thursday. After a disappointing series against West Indies earlier this month, Kishan declared a return to form with this innings, where he hit 10 fours and 3 sixes to take India to a total of 199 runs.
Sodhi said that the best thing about Rohit’s leadership was his clear mindset, where if a player is good, he will get support. However, when the performance continues to decline, Rohit doesn’t shy away from showing the exit door.
Sodhi insisted that this show-or-destroy policy was essential to the team’s success.
Rohit Sharma took over the captaincy responsibility from Virat Kohli in all formats. Ever since Rohit took over as the full-time captain, India have registered a 100 per cent success rate so far. India eliminated West Indies in both T20Is and ODIs and registered a comfortable win against Sri Lanka in the first T20I under their leadership. There is going to be a face-off between India and Sri Lanka in the second T20 match in Dharamsala today. However, Team India is yet to play a Test match under the captaincy of Rohit.
