India captain Rohit Sharma and star pacer Jasprit Bumrah Wisden has honored him as two of its five Cricketers of the Year. Both were named with the New Zealand opener Devon ConwayEngland fast bowler Ollie Robinson and South Africa women’s captain Dane van Niekerk. England captain Joe Root Was named the Leading Cricketer in the World at the 2022 edition of the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack. Root had a stellar year in 2021, scoring six centuries and scoring runs for fun while his team struggled around him.
“Jasprit Bumrah was at the center of India’s two Test victories last summer, taking three for 33 on the final afternoon at Lord’s, then Ollie Pope and bowling thriller. Jonny Bairstow Wisden editor Lawrence Booth wrote, “In consecutive overs to accelerate my team to victory at The Oval.”
“If it hadn’t rained on the last day of the first Test at Trent Bridge, he could have had an Indian win by nine wickets as well. Overall, he took 18 of 20 wickets in four Tests, and scored some unexpected runs. – and important – tailend run,” he said.
“Rohit Sharma was at the center of his side’s 2-1 lead over England, and played starring roles with the bat at Lord’s, where he scored a superb 83 in treacherous conditions, and at The Oval, where his scintillating 127 took India to one. 99 in the first innings,” Booth wrote of the new India captain.
“His 368-run series at 52 was more than any of his teammates,” he added.

He also praised Root a lot.
“Root rose above England’s Test side’s struggle to produce one of the all-time great performances in a calendar year. His 1,708 runs have only been beaten by Mohammad Yousuf in 2006 and Viv Richards in 1976, and that included six centuries.” And he scored his runs in his fifth year as captain of England, at which time many of his predecessors had already called it a day,” he wrote.
