The All India Senior Selection Committee on Wednesday announced Rohit Sharma as the new captain of the team. India In ODIs. Rohit will take over the captaincy responsibility from Virat Kohli.

The Virat Kohli-led side will begin the tour with a Boxing Day Test against the Proteas to be played at Centurion on December 26. The second Test will begin in Johannesburg from January 3 while the third match of the 3-match series will begin in Cape Town from January 11.

Here is the squad: Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (VC), KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (WK), Wriddhiman Saha (WK), R Ashwin, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma , Mo. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj.

The Test series will be followed by a 3-match ODI series. The first One Day International match is to be held in Paarl on 19 January. The second match will be played on January 21 at the same venue after which the teams will travel to Cape Town on January 23 to play the final match of the tour. ,
