Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday laid the foundation stone of a medical college-cum-hospital at Alibaug in Raigad district in an online function. Officials said that a 100-seat college and a 500-bed hospital is being built at a cost of Rs 450 crore in Usar village, about eight kilometers from here.
He said that the medical college with 76 students is already functioning from a temporary campus on a plot of RCF from this year itself. While Thackeray announced setting up of a trauma care center at Vadkhal here and said his government was committed to improving the health infrastructure of the state, NCP chief Sharad Pawar addressed the event and said that the medical college-cum-hospital Will help the people of this area. Others who addressed the gathering were state revenue minister Balasaheb Thorat, who demanded a nursing college in the area, medical education minister Amit Deshmukh, who said the government planned to set up a medical college in every district. Health Minister Rajesh Tope said that the state does not have enough doctors according to the population and medical colleges will play a big role in bridging this gap.
