The rupee ended 15 paise lower at 82.48 (provisional) against the US dollar on October 28, as a firm greenback in overseas markets weighed on the local unit.

Traders said, however, a positive trend in the domestic equity market and fresh inflow of foreign funds limited the losses in the rupee.

In the interbank forex market, the local currency opened weak at 82.39 and saw a high of 82.29 and a low of 82.49. It eventually closed at 82.48 against the US currency, recording a loss of 15 paise over its previous close.

On Thursday, the rupee had gained 48 paise to close at 82.33 against the dollar in the previous session.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.25% to 110.86.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures fell 0.91% to $96.08 a barrel.

On the domestic equity market front, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed 203.01 points or 0.34% higher at 59,959.85, while the broader NSE Nifty ended 49.85 points or 0.28% higher at 17,786.80.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) became net buyers in the capital market as they bought shares worth Rs 2,818.40 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data.
