A Russian Su-25 fighter jet crashed on Thursday in Russia’s Belgorod region near the border with Ukraine, the regional governor said, but the cause of the incident is not yet known.

Citing emergency services, the RIA state news agency said the pilot was still alive after ejecting himself from the plane.

In a post on the Telegram messenger app, Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said emergency services and investigators were at the scene near the town of Valyuki and the cause of the accident was being established.
The Belgorod region, which borders Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, has come under repeated fire since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine a year ago.
