Kyiv on Saturday called for Murashov’s immediate release, condemning his “illegal detention”.
Zaporizhia, Europe’s largest nuclear power facility, has been at the center of tensions recently when Moscow and Kyiv accused each other of attacks on and near the plant, raising fears of a nuclear disaster.
Murashov was detained by a “Russian patrol” on Friday at around 4:00 p.m. local time (1300 GMT) on his way from the plant to the city of Energodar, the head of Ukraine’s nuclear agency Energoatom, Petro Kotin, said in a statement. . ,

Ukraine’s foreign ministry said in a statement that it “strongly condemns illegal detention”.
According to Kotin, Murashov of the Zaporizhzhya plant “bears the main and special responsibility for nuclear and radiation safety”.
The nuclear plant is located in the Russian-occupied territory of Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhya region, which Russia annexed Friday along with three other regions in Ukraine: Donetsk, Lugansk and Kherson,
The shelling around the plant has prompted calls on Kyiv and its Western allies to demilitarize areas around nuclear facilities in Ukraine.
A UN surveillance team visited Zaporizhzhya in early September, and the IAEA is pushing Kyiv and Moscow to agree to establish a safety zone around the plant to avoid any nuclear accidents.
Grossi said over the weekend that he was looking forward to traveling to Kyiv and Moscow to discuss it this week.
