Russian wrestler Bilyal MakhoviThe Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) said the gold medalist in the 120kg freestyle event at the London Olympics has been banned for four years for an anti-doping violation.
The 34-year-old was suspended on January 27, 2020, it said in a statement.
TASS news agency reported that Makhov had tested positive for the banned substance and a spokesman for RUSA said he failed to provide a documentary explanation about how it entered his body.
The agency said Makhov’s representative told them the wrestler was banned because he had failed to report a medical preparation on his Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) list.
