Salary of government school teachers linked to biometric attendance – Times of India

Lucknow: With a view to ensure attendance of teachers in government schools, the Secondary Education Department has linked the attendance (of teaching and non-teaching staff) recorded by biometric scanners with their salary payments. Biometric systems use biological features such as fingerprints, iris patterns, hand geometry, and others for identification.
As per the instructions issued by the departmental head Aradhana Shukla, the technology will digitize the information about the teachers and staff such as the time of entry and exit from their school. As part of the 100 days of Yogi 2.0, the secondary education department had decided to install biometric scanners in all 2,675 government schools in the state.
Officials said the decision was taken to check the increasing absenteeism among teachers in government schools, especially in rural areas. The system will also ensure punctuality, as it will also record the time.
emphasis on strict enforcement biometric attendanceShukla asked the Inspectors and Joint Directors of District Schools to keep a constant vigil in their respective districts and divisions. School principals have also been directed to apprise the DIOS about non-functional biometric machines.
DIOS should send the report of teachers to the Joint Directors every fortnight. In his letter to the Director of Secondary Education and Finance Officer, Shukla said that the education of students is the top priority of the government. And for a good education system it is necessary that teachers reach the school on time.
Earlier, Governor Anandiben Patel had made biometric attendance mandatory for state universities.
