In fact, this is the first time that the flagship series models have been launched in India with Qualcomm chipsets and not Exynos.
However, it looks like this may change in 2023. Reports suggest that the company is planning to remove its in-house Exynos chip for the Galaxy S23 lineup. According to popular analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo’s TF International SecuritiesAs of now, Samsung will launch the Galaxy S23 series smartphones with only Qualcomm’s chipsets worldwide and may miss out on the Exynos chipset for the entire lineup. This means there will be no Exynos-powered Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+ or Galaxy S23 Ultra phones.
Why can’t Samsung go for the chipset in-house
According to Kuo, the reason for this is better performance from Qualcomm’s upcoming flagship chip – which could be called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 – compared to the Exynos counterpart. The analyst has claimed that the Exynos 2300 “cannot compete” with Qualcomm’s flagships in terms of performance.
Kuo also predicts that Qualcomm’s market share will increase in the high-end Android Space with the launch of Snapdragon Gen 2 chipset. According to Kuo, the handset will be powered by a chipset bearing part number SM8550 and will be manufactured using TSMC’s 4nm process.
As per reports, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip is likely to offer better performance and better power efficiency than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. Meanwhile, Samsung Mobile President TM Roh confirmed in April that the company is working on a ‘unique’ chip for Galaxy smartphones. However, it is still unclear whether it will be part of the Exynos lineup or whether the company is planning to launch a new customized chipset for its flagship phone.
