Belagavi: There is a constant clamor among the Belagavi-Sangli commuters to restart the passenger trains that were withdrawn for gauge conversion in 1971. The services did not resume even after the work was completed in 1995.

Business in the turmeric market is also getting affected, due to which the economy is slowing down. The Sangli Chamber of Commerce has also written to Belagavi MP Mangala Angadi requesting him to persuade the Railway Department to run more trains on the route.
